About the test
What is in the 13+ mental arithmetic test?
40 written questions in 10 minutes, worth 1 mark each. There is no calculator and no credit for working, so only the answer counts. Foundation and Core candidates sit the same test.
How fast do I need to be?
About 15 seconds a question. Quick number facts, percentages from 10% and 5%, fractions of amounts and simple equations come up most.
How should I practise?
Sit one test timed, then learn the method for each question you missed. Repeat a few days later. Two short timed tests a week build speed faster than one long session.
