For Oxford 2027 entry, take TMUA. The MAT was replaced from the 2026 admissions round for Mathematics, Computer Science and related joint-honours courses.

Oxford used the MAT from 2007 to 2025. From the 2026 admissions round, it moved to the TMUA for Mathematics, Computer Science and related joint-honours courses listed by Oxford. Check your exact course page before booking.

What TMUA covers
Paper 1
Applications of Mathematical Knowledge. 20 multiple-choice questions in 75 minutes.
Paper 2
Mathematical Reasoning. 20 multiple-choice questions in 75 minutes. Calculators are not permitted.
Before you register
Do I take the MAT or TMUA for Oxford in 2027 entry?
Oxford requires the TMUA for 2027-entry applicants to Mathematics, Computer Science and related joint-honours courses listed on its admissions-test page. The MAT is no longer the Oxford test for those courses.
When did Oxford replace the MAT?
Oxford says the MAT was used from 2007 to 2025. The TMUA replaced it from the 2026 admissions round onward.
Is TMUA the same test as MAT?
No. They are different tests. The current TMUA has two 75-minute papers with 20 multiple-choice questions in each. The former MAT was a separate Oxford admissions test and is not the current Oxford requirement.
What should I practise now?
If your current course page lists TMUA, practise TMUA papers and the UAT-UK specification. Do not prepare for the MAT as your Oxford admissions test unless an official course page gives a different instruction for your application year.
