Why did my school give me a different grade?
Schools often set their own mock boundaries, mark a little differently, or use papers from a year with other boundaries. Two papers out of three also leave a third of the marks unknown. The tool shows the grade under each recent summer so you can see how much that alone moves it.
Should I add a grade for improvement?
We do not add one. The research behind this tool found no representative data on how much marks rise from mocks to the summer, so any uplift would be a guess. You can explore an improvement you choose on the grade 9 calculator.
What grade is 50 out of 80 on one Maths paper?
Single papers are not graded. The boards print notional marks as a guide: pick one paper in the tool to see the June 2026 notional grade beside the projected total.

How we work this out
What it does
Turn a mock mark into a grade: exact for a full past set, a clearly labelled range for one or two papers or a school's own mock.
GCSE (9-1) Maths, English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Combined Science from AQA, Pearson Edexcel and OCR, in England. Mocks built from unchanged past papers, from some of the papers, or written by a school.
Method
- A full, unchanged past-paper set marked to the mark scheme uses that series' own boundaries: an exact lookup.
- For one or two papers, or a school's own mock, we assume you would score the same percentage on the marks you did not sit: projected total = your mark divided by the marks available, times the full maximum.
- Example: 112 out of 160 on two Pearson Edexcel Maths Higher papers is 70%, so 168 of 240. That was a grade 8 on 2024's boundaries and a 7 on 2025's and 2026's.
- If you say the marking could be out by a few marks, the same sum gives a low and a high total, and we show the grade at each.
- For a single original paper we also show the board's June 2026 notional mark for that paper, as a guide only.
- Where recent summers give different grades, the one grade shown uses the latest summer's boundaries; every year's grade is listed under your result.
