The question types

  • Multiple choice on the main idea, a detail or the writer's attitude
  • True or false, with the words from the text that prove it
  • Find the word or phrase in a given paragraph that means something
  • Complete a sentence with words as they appear in the text
  • Say who or what a word such as ellos, esto or les refers to
  • Match sentence beginnings and endings, or headings to paragraphs

Answer with the text's own words

Most answers are words copied from the text. Copy exactly, keep within the word limit, and for a justification copy the shortest part of the sentence that proves your answer.

What changes at HL

HL texts are longer and more complex, and the reading often includes a literary text, such as a short story or memoir, with questions on attitude and implied meaning.
