How to remember it

  • Learn the order of the periods first: Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, Normans, Tudors, Stuarts, Hanoverians, Victorians.
  • Hang each date on a period, not on its own.
  • Practise the pairs people mix up: 1603, 1707 and 1801; 1807 and 1833; 1918 and 1928.
