What the pass rate tells you
About two in three candidates pass, so roughly one in three does not, and the rate has drifted down since June 2024. The pass mark is 50%, and every question is compulsory, so a weak area cannot be avoided: the questions cover all six syllabus areas.
Where marks are lost
Section B: three 10-mark multi-task questions, on budgeting, standard costing and performance measurement. Together they are 30 marks.
Exact figures: an overhead absorption rate, a variance or an NPV is right or wrong, and a favourable variance entered as adverse loses the marks.
Breadth: cost accounting techniques, area C, cover materials, labour, overheads, absorption and marginal costing and four costing methods.
How to be in the passing group
Find your weakest area first, fix it with a short lesson, then practise questions until the methods are automatic. Finish with full two-hour papers so the clock feels normal.
