AP Physics 1

AP Physics 1 study planner for May 2027

Units are not worth the same. Forces and energy are each 18–23% of Section I, while rotating systems and oscillations are 5–8% each. Tell the planner how sure you are of each unit and it spends your hours where the points are.

How the plan is made

  • Each unit starts from the middle of its published Section I weight range.
  • A unit you have not started gets about one and a half times its share; a solid unit gets under half.
  • Units are ordered heaviest need first, and the final one or two weeks are timed practice exams with review of every miss.

Making the hours count

  • Start each unit with a few questions to find what you do not know, then the lesson, then more questions.
  • Practice one free-response type every week: they are half the score.
  • Keep forces and energy in every week; later units lean on them.
  • Redo the plan when a unit moves from shaky to solid.

Try 2 questions

Question 1
A block of mass m rests without sliding on a rough ramp tilted at angle θ above the horizontal. The coefficient of static friction is μₛ. What is the magnitude of the static friction force on the block?
Question 2
The graph shows the angular velocity of a turntable as a function of time. What is the angular displacement of the turntable from t = 0 to t = 6.0 s?

Questions people ask

Which AP Physics 1 unit is weighted most?

Unit 2, Force and Translational Dynamics, and Unit 3, Work, Energy, and Power, at 18–23% each of the multiple-choice section.

How long should I study for AP Physics 1?

It depends on how much of the course you know. The planner turns your weekly hours into hours per unit; most students do best with steady weekly practice rather than a final cram.

When should I start studying for the 2027 AP Physics 1 exam?

Now is best: steady weekly study through the school year leaves the final weeks for full practice exams before May 5, 2027.
