Do I meet the PMP® experience and training requirements?

Can I take the PMP exam without a degree? Yes. With a secondary school diploma or equivalent, PMI asks for 60 months of project leadership experience in the last 10 years, plus the 35 hours of training.

PMI maps qualifications by level; a course title alone does not set the route.

The 10-year window ends with this month.

Questions people ask

Do overlapping projects count twice?

No. PMI counts months, not projects: a month in which you led two projects counts once. This checker merges your projects for you.

Does my self-paced online course count for the 35 hours?

It can, if it ends with an assessment. From 1 December 2026 the approved-provider requirement applies to live instruction only; self-paced courses may still come from any provider that meets the other rules.

Do practice exams count toward the 35 hours?

No. Books, videos and practice exams on their own are not accepted as training. An active CAPM does supply the training hours, but not the experience.

How we work this out

What it does

Pick your education route, enter your projects and your training to count your non-overlapping months and check the 35-hour rules, including the December 2026 change.

PMI's published eligibility rules for the PMP® certification as of September 2026: four education routes, months of project leadership in the 10 years before you apply, and 35 hours of project management training with its credit routes and the live-instruction rule from 1 December 2026.

Method

  1. Your education route sets the months you need: 60 with a secondary diploma, 48 with an associate degree or EQF level 5 equivalent, 36 with a bachelor's degree or EQF level 6 equivalent, and 24 with a degree from a GAC-accredited program.
  2. We turn each project's start and end month into a set of calendar months, keep only the months inside the 10 years that end with the month you plan to apply, and count each month once, however many projects ran in it.
  3. Training is checked against PMI's rules: 35 hours of instruction, or an active CAPM, or relevant GAC coursework. A self-paced course must end with an assessment; books, videos and practice exams alone do not count. Live instruction finished on or after 1 December 2026 must come from an ATP (a training provider authorized by PMI), a China REP or an eligible accredited academic program.
