How should I plan my PMP® study before my exam date?

How many hours a week do I need for the PMP exam? It depends on your date and experience. Enter them above: the plan shows the hours this course's units, practice and two full mocks need, and the weekly hours that fit them before your exam week.

Questions people ask

When should I take full mock exams?

This plan places the first after about two thirds of the material and the second close to the exam, each as one 240-minute sitting with time to review every miss.

Can I prepare in six weeks?

Six weeks leave five study weeks and an exam week. At 8 hours a week that is 40 hours, usually short of a full plan with two mocks, so the planner will show the weekly hours you would need.

Does this plan give me the 35 training hours for my application?

No. The planner schedules study; it records no training hours. Check your training separately against PMI's rules.

How we work this out

What it does

Enter your exam date, weekly hours and experience for a week-by-week plan through all 28 units, with two full 240-minute mocks, review and an exam-week buffer.

This course's 35-hour teaching plan (28 units in teaching order, our original design) scheduled into the weeks before your exam date, for the July 2026 exam of 180 questions in 240 minutes.

Method

  1. Weeks available are the full weeks from your start date to your exam date. With three or more weeks, the last is kept as a light exam week with no new material.
  2. Each unit gets its lesson hours times a practice factor for your experience (1.6 new to formal project management, 1.4 with some experience, 1.2 experienced in predictive and agile work). These factors are our editorial choice.
  3. We add a 30-minute diagnostic, two full mocks of 4 hours each (one 240-minute sitting) with 2 hours of review, the first after about two thirds of the units, and a final review of weak tasks (10% of unit time, at least 2 hours). A mock is kept in one week whenever your weekly hours allow.
