On the day

  • The appointment is 250 minutes: an 8-minute tutorial, a 2-minute nondisclosure agreement, 230 minutes of test time and a 10-minute survey.
  • Do not bring a calculator. Basic and scientific calculators are built into the exam, and the test center will give you a four-function calculator if you ask.
  • You answer each question before the next one appears, and you can flag questions and return to them at the end.
  • SI units are the primary units of radiation measurement on the exam.
  • You see a preliminary score on screen at the end; the official score report comes by email after ARRT's review.

Question formats

Most questions are multiple choice with one best answer. Some ask you to select several answers or sort options into order, a few ask you to select part of an image, and others follow a short video clip. Your score is based on the number of correct answers, so answer every question.
