Rehearse test day, not just the questions

Points are lost on the day to a quiet microphone, speaking before the beep, and missing a detail you did not write down. Home Edition tests can also be stopped for a room or equipment problem. Check all four here.

1. Microphone

Record three seconds and listen back.

2. Wait for the beep

In Listen and Repeat you hear a sentence once, then a beep. People who have taken the 2026 test say many candidates start talking too early. Say each sentence only after the beep; an early start is flagged.

3. Notes on the fiddly details

Conversations in the test hinge on small changes: a cancelled time, a different room. Notes are allowed. Practise catching them.
