WASSCE maths topics and papers

General Mathematics is a core subject every WASSCE school candidate sits, in two papers: an objective paper of 1 hour 30 minutes and an essay paper of 2 hours 30 minutes.

12 weeks, 96 hours in all

Start with Section 1

Number and numeration: 8.9 of your hours. Every section starts with the same weight; the sections you are less sure of get more time.

Paper 1Objective (multiple choice), 1 hour 30 minutes
Paper 2Essay, 2 hours 30 minutes, answers in writing
This courseNine sections, 18 lessons and two timed papers

The nine sections

  • Number and numeration: number bases, modular arithmetic, standard form, indices, logarithms and surds.
  • Sets, logic and sequences: Venn diagrams with up to three sets, logical reasoning, arithmetic and geometric progressions.
  • Commercial arithmetic: ratio and rates, percentages, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, depreciation.

How to use the planner

Set the weeks you have and how sure you feel in each section. The planner gives the most hours to the sections you are least sure of and keeps the last weeks for timed papers and written practice. Every section has the same weight: we do not guess which topics will be set.

Try 3 questions

Question 1Multiple choice
Convert 231452314_{5} to a number in base ten.
Question 2Multiple choice
, AA is the set of multiples of 33 in UU and BB is the set of even numbers in UU. Find (A∪B)′(A \cup B)'.
Question 3Multiple choice
AA, BB and CC are points on a circle with centre OO, and CC lies on the major arc ABAB. The angle AOBAOB at the centre (the angle facing the minor arc ABAB) is 115∘115^\circ. Find ∠ACB\angle ACB.
