The total weekly claim amount is normally distributed with mean 1,000 and standard deviation 200 dollars.
Calculate the probability that it is between 850 and 1,300 dollars.
Only six Texas Instruments models are approved for SOA exams. Bring one you have practiced with, and a spare if you like: more than one is allowed.
| Approved models | BA-35, BA II Plus, BA II Plus Professional, TI-30Xa, TI-30X II (IIS solar or IIB battery), TI-30XS MultiView (or XB battery) |
|---|---|
| How many | More than one is allowed, with extra batteries, if each is on the list |
| Memory | You must show the memory has been cleared on the BA II Plus, BA II Plus Professional, TI-30X II and TI-30XS MultiView |
| Not allowed | Calculator covers, instructions and any other model |
Most Exam P work is powers, exponentials, logarithms, factorials and combinations. The TI-30XS MultiView shows a whole expression on screen and lets you scroll back through earlier lines, which makes checking easier. The BA II Plus is built for interest calculations and matters more for Exam FM.
None of the approved models integrates or finds normal probabilities. You integrate densities by hand and read normal probabilities from the table provided on screen.
The total weekly claim amount is normally distributed with mean 1,000 and standard deviation 200 dollars.
Calculate the probability that it is between 850 and 1,300 dollars.
The number of claims in a month is Poisson with mean 1.0. In a particular month there was at least one.
Calculate the probability that there were exactly 2.
No. Graphing calculators are not approved. Only the BA-35, BA II Plus, BA II Plus Professional, TI-30Xa, TI-30X II and TI-30XS MultiView are allowed.
Yes. SOA allows more than one calculator, with extra batteries, as long as each is an approved model.
Yes. A standard normal table is available on screen during the computer-based exam, so you may not bring your own copy.
