Question 2 · Course practice question · Acquisition strategy2 marks

Acquisitions, synergy and listings

A special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) holds $200m in trust from 20 million public shares issued at $10. Its sponsor holds a further 5 million shares, for which it paid a nominal sum. Before completion, holders of 40% of the public shares redeem them for $10 each from the trust. Assume the combined company is worth Rydal Co's agreed value plus the cash left in the trust; ignore costs.
