Timed practice exams

Each paper follows the structure in ACCA’s study guide: Section A, a single case study of 50 marks (40 technical and 10 professional skills marks) asking for a response in a stated format; Section B, two questions of 25 marks (20 technical and 5 professional skills marks each). The formulae sheet and tables are one tap away, as in the exam. Figures are checked and written parts read by Mia, so a paper gives no mark and no pass or fail. Exam 1 is free and exam 2 comes with the course.

Formulae and tables

The formulae sheet and tables, as the exam provides them. Use the factors as printed, to three decimal places. There is no normal distribution table: a question that needs N(d1) or N(d2) gives the values.

Modigliani and Miller Proposition 2 (with tax): ke = kie + (1 − T)(kie − kd) × Vd ÷ Ve; Or rearranged: ke + (1 − T) × kd × (Vd ÷ Ve) = kie + (1 − T) × kie × (Vd ÷ Ve)
The Capital Asset Pricing Model: E(ri) = Rf + βi × (E(rm) − Rf)
The asset beta formula: βa = [Ve ÷ (Ve + Vd(1 − T))] × βe + [Vd(1 − T) ÷ (Ve + Vd(1 − T))] × βd
The Growth Model: P0 = D0(1 + g) ÷ (re − g)
Gordon's growth approximation: g = b × re
The weighted average cost of capital: WACC = [Ve ÷ (Ve + Vd)] × ke + [Vd ÷ (Ve + Vd)] × kd(1 − T)
The Fisher formula: (1 + i) = (1 + r)(1 + h)
Purchasing power parity and interest rate parity: S1 = S0 × (1 + hc) ÷ (1 + hb); F0 = S0 × (1 + ic) ÷ (1 + ib)
Modified Internal Rate of Return: MIRR = (PVR ÷ PVI)^(1/n) × (1 + re) − 1
The Black-Scholes option pricing model: c = Pa × N(d1) − Pe × N(d2) × e^(−rt); d1 = [ln(Pa ÷ Pe) + (r + 0.5s²)t] ÷ (s√t); d2 = d1 − s√t
The Put Call Parity relationship: p = c − Pa + Pe × e^(−rt)

Present value table. Present value of 1, (1 + r)^-n, where r is the discount rate and n the number of periods until payment.
