What the pass rate tells you
Around two in three candidates pass, so roughly one in three does not. The pass mark is 50%, and every question is compulsory, so a weak area cannot be avoided: the study guide spreads the questions across all nine syllabus areas.
Where marks are lost
Section B: two 15-mark multi-task questions, one on consolidations and one on accounts preparation. Together they are 30 marks.
Exact figures: a depreciation charge, a goodwill figure or a corrected cash book balance is right or wrong.
Breadth: area D, recording transactions and events, holds 72 of the 154 outcomes in the study guide.
How to be in the passing group
Find your weakest area first, fix it with a short lesson, then practise questions until the routines are automatic. Finish with full two-hour papers so the clock feels normal.
