What percentage of people get a grade 9?
It depends on the subject and board. In June 2026, 3.8% of Pearson Edexcel Maths entries (UK) got a 9, and 2.4% of AQA English Language entries did, across all tiers.
Is a grade 4 a pass?
Grade 4 is widely called a standard pass. In June 2026, 61.2% of Pearson Edexcel Maths entries got a 4 or better, and 63.1% of AQA English Language entries did.
Why no exact percentile for a Foundation grade 5?
Foundation and Higher candidates can both get grades 5, 4 and 3, on different papers and mark scales. The boards publish one share for both, so we can only give the band.

What it does
Place your GCSE mark among everyone who took the same board's exam in 2026, using the board's published grade shares.
GCSE (9-1) Maths, English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Combined Science from AQA, Pearson Edexcel and OCR, in England. June 2026 for all three boards, and AQA June 2025, all tiers together. Pearson's figures are UK only.
Method
- Boards publish the share of entries getting each grade or better. If C is the share at your grade or better and C+ the share at the grade above, your grade covers the (100 − C)th to (100 − C+)th percentile.
- For untiered subjects and Higher grades above 5, where one mark scale applies, we also draw a straight line within the grade to place your mark.
- Example: AQA English Language June 2026, 91 of 160 is grade 5, which covers the 53rd to 69th percentile of 623,435 entries; the straight line puts 91 at about the 65th.
