Is it worth getting a GCSE remarked if I am one mark off?

Being close is not evidence the marking was wrong, and a review can lower a mark too. Talk to your school: they can look at the marking and request the review. Ofqual's figures show most challenged grades stay the same.

How many GCSE remarks change the grade?

In summer 2025, 58,725 of the 243,150 GCSE grades challenged (24.2%) changed, almost all up by one grade. Those were grades schools chose to challenge, not a random sample.

Can a remark lower my grade?

Yes, though rarely: under 0.1% of challenged GCSE grades went down in 2025. The tool shows how many marks you could lose before your grade drops.

Ofqual: of 5,661,970 GCSE grades, 4.3% were challenged. Of the 243,150 challenged, 58,725 (24.2%) changed; 98.3% of changes were by one grade. In 2024, 22.4% of 269,080 changed.
