IB Maths AA formula booklet practice

A clean AA formula booklet is available for every AA examination paper. Your school supplies the current copy.

Practise choosing the right formula and interpreting its symbols with these original examples, labelled for SL or HL and examinations through November 2028.

Get the right AA booklet

Ask your teacher or IB coordinator for the current AA formula booklet. A clean copy is given to you for every AA examination paper, so practise with the same version, without notes in it.

Official AA guide: formula-booklet rules (printed page 21, PDF page 27). The guide explains the rules; it is not the booklet.

Current course: first assessment 2021, examined through November 2028. AI and the 2029 course use different booklets.

Questions about AA formula booklets

Is the AA formula booklet the same as the AI one?

No. Analysis and approaches (AA) and applications and interpretation (AI) are different courses, each with its own booklet and papers. These checks are for AA only.

What do the SL and HL labels mean here?

Checks marked SL and HL use content both levels study. Checks marked HL only use additional HL content, such as integration by parts. Use the booklet your school gives you for your level.

Can I use the booklet on every paper?

Yes. A clean copy is available for every AA examination paper. Paper 1 has no calculator; Paper 2 and HL Paper 3 allow a graphic display calculator. A booklet does not tell you which relationship a question needs, which is what these checks practise.

What about the course first assessed in 2029?

It is a separate syllabus, first taught from August 2027. These checks are for the current course, examined through November 2028.

For a whole-course picture from paper and IA marks, the grade calculator uses past boundaries as historical context. It is not a score for these checks.

How it works

What it covers

Original checks for IB Mathematics: analysis and approaches, the current course (examined through November 2028): six shared by SL and HL, and two for HL only (integration by parts and the scalar product). Each has a different retry.

Method

  1. Each check first asks which stated relationship fits the question, then asks for the result. A reminder of the relationship opens on request.
  2. Answers are checked on our server: exact equivalents are accepted, and a decimal must match to the precision the question states. A known slip, such as the nth term in place of the sum or the variance in place of the standard deviation, is named.
  3. The condition checks test the rule behind each formula: |r| < 1 for a sum to infinity, the included angle, exact against cumulative probability, the standard deviation, the choice of u, and nonzero vectors.
