History, not a target. Since 2021 entry NSW has changed the test and gives parents bands instead of scores, so these numbers cannot be converted to today’s results. Many regional schools show 160, which looks like a floor rather than a competitive minimum.

What score do you need for James Ruse?

Why were minimum entry scores stopped?

The Department no longer releases individual scores or placement ranks. It says past score reporting affected student privacy and wellbeing and encouraged unhealthy competition, and families now receive performance bands for each section instead.

Can I convert an old score out of 300 to today's bands?

No. The test format, the scaling and what is reported have all changed since 2021 entry, and no official conversion exists.

For 2021 entry the highest published minimums were James Ruse Agricultural (248), Baulkham Hills (233), North Sydney Boys (228), Hornsby Girls (221) and then Girraween, North Sydney Girls and Sydney Boys (220 each).

What it does

The last minimum entry scores NSW published, school by school: selective high schools for 2017 to 2021 entry and opportunity classes for 2020 and 2021, with each year's rank.

373 school-year minimum entry scores out of 300: 222 for selective high schools (Year 7 entry 2017 to 2021) and 151 for opportunity classes (Year 5 entry 2020 and 2021).

Method

  1. The figures are the Department's published minimum scores, as republished school by school by Global Education Academy; the Department's own downloadable tables were not recovered.
  2. Each school's rank is its place among the schools listed that year, highest minimum first; equal scores share a rank.
  3. Names are kept as printed. Punctuation and one spelling (Leichardt) are tidied so the same school joins across years; renamed or merged schools, such as Armidale and Aurora College, are kept apart.
  4. An old score you enter is compared with each school's minimum in the same year only.

Out of 300, highest first by the latest year each school was listed. A blank year means the school was not in that year’s table (for example a school that had closed, merged or changed its name). Names are kept as printed; renamed schools are not joined.
