PTE scores, results and retakes
Scores run from 10 to 90. Most results arrive within two business days and a score is valid for two years from the test date.
| Score scale | 10 to 90, graded against the Global Scale of English |
|---|---|
| Results | Typically within 48 hours; sometimes up to five business days |
| Valid for | Two years from the test date |
| Retakes | Book the next test once you have your last scores; up to 12 tests in 12 months |
How retakes work
- You can book a new test only after you have received the scores from your last one.
- You can hold one booking at a time.
- You can take the test more than once a month, up to 12 times in any 12-month window.
Using your score for an Australian visa
Home Affairs reads your four skill scores, not just the overall score. A result must be from the 3 years before your visa application for Competent English, depending on the visa.
Results from tests on or before 6 August 2025 use the older scores (Competent 50, Proficient 65, Superior 79 in each skill) and may be used until 6 August 2028, depending on the visa.

App-based work
Supporters of app-based work describe it as freedom: drivers and couriers choose their own hours and can work for several platforms at once. This picture is not false, but it is incomplete. Flexibility is worth most to those who have other income and can turn down poorly paid jobs. For workers who depend entirely on the apps, the freedom to log off can mean the freedom to earn nothing, and decisions about pay are made by software they cannot question.
