Question 1 asks for the historical circumstances of Document 1; question 2 asks about the bias, point of view, audience or purpose of Document 2; question 3 joins the documents: cause and effect in one set, and a turning point or a similarity or difference in the other.

Questions 1 and 2
- Historical circumstances: say what was happening that led to the document, using what you know; the answer usually goes beyond the document's own words.
- Sourcing: read the author, date and audience under the document. For bias, say what the author left out or reported one-sidedly; saying "the author is biased" is not enough.
Question 3
- Cause and effect: make clear which development is the cause and which the effect, with evidence from both documents.
- Turning point: name the turning point, then explain the significant change it brought, using both documents.
- Similarity or difference: name one, then explain it with details from both documents.

Questions people ask
How much is each CRQ question worth?
One credit each: three in the cause-and-effect set and four in the other set, seven in all.
Is a biased document useless?
No. Bias affects how the evidence can be used, not whether it has value; say what the author left out or reported one-sidedly.
