The VCE Economics examination
One examination at the end of Year 12: 15 minutes of reading and 2 hours of writing for 80 marks. Section A is 15 multiple-choice questions worth 1 mark each; Section B is 65 marks of short-answer and extended-answer questions.
| Time | 15 minutes reading, 2 hours writing |
|---|---|
| Marks | 80, all questions compulsory |
| Section A | 15 multiple-choice questions, 1 mark each |
| Section B | Short-answer and extended-answer questions, 65 marks |
| Weight | 50% of the study score; Unit 3 and Unit 4 coursework 25% each |
Section A
Fifteen multiple-choice questions, one mark each. Work the answer out before you read the options: the wrong options are the slips students make, such as a shift read as a movement or nominal growth read as real.
Section B
Short-answer and extended-answer questions, many in parts, some on stimulus material such as graphs and tables. The number of questions changes from year to year, so read the marks and the command word on each part: they tell you how much to write.
Reading time
Use the 15 minutes to read Section B's stimulus and plan which points each extended answer needs. You cannot write answers in reading time.
