What do I need on Paper 3 for an A in Edexcel A-level Maths?
It depends on your first two papers and the boundary. With 70 and 75, the June 2026 A boundary of 210 needs 65 out of 100 on Paper 3. Using the 2027 planning estimate the central answer is also 65, with a range of 46 to 84.
Do I need a certain grade on every paper?
No. Only the total counts. A weak first paper can be made up on a later one, which is why this tool works from your total, not from paper grades.
Which boundary should I aim at?
The 2027 central estimate is a fair middle. If you want a margin, aim at the high end of the range, which covered most past rises. A past June's boundary shows what would have been enough that year.
What if two papers are still to come?
Then many splits work. The tool gives the total you still need and the average percentage that means across those papers.

What it does
Enter the papers you have done and a target grade to see the least mark you need on the one still to come.
The 21 current linear A-level specifications in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR) and all 70 routes of optional papers. Targets from A* to E, against any June's official qualification boundary since 2017, or against the 2027 planning estimate.
Method
- Add the marks of the papers you entered (OCR H645's Core Pure counts 1.25 times).
- Take the target boundary: a past June's printed boundary, or the 2027 planning estimate with its low and high ends.
- If one paper is left, try every whole mark on it from 0 upwards and report the first one whose total, rounded as the board rounds, reaches the boundary. Example: Edexcel 9MA0 with 70 and 75 needs 65 on Paper 3 for the June 2026 A boundary of 210.
- If two or more papers are left there is no single answer, so the tool gives the total still needed and the average percentage that means.
- The optional self-marking setting lowers every paper you entered by that many marks and works the answer out again.
