I got 54/100 on an A-level Maths past paper. What grade is that?
It depends on the paper and year. On Edexcel 9MA0 Paper 1 from June 2026, 54 meets the notional C boundary; choose your exact paper above to see its grade and how the same mark did in other years.
Why does the same mark get different grades in different years?
Boards set boundaries after marking, so a harder paper gets lower boundaries. The same raw mark can be a B one year and an A the next.
Can I use my paper grades to work out my A-level grade?
Not by averaging them. Add your paper marks and compare the total with the qualification boundary instead: the grade calculator does that.
What if my school's mock mixed questions from several papers?
There is no official boundary for a mixed mock. The nearest honest guide is the percentage you scored against a comparable past paper's boundaries.

How we work this out
What it does
Enter one past paper mark to see its notional grade that June and in every other year.
Every paper of the 21 current linear A-level specifications in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR), for each June the board printed a paper boundary: 2017 to 2026 for AQA and OCR, 2018 to 2026 for Pearson, no 2020 or 2021.
Method
- Find the notional boundary the board printed for that exact paper and June.
- Your mark gets the highest grade whose boundary it meets. Example: 70 on Edexcel 9MA0 Paper 1 (Pure Mathematics 1) in June 2026 meets the notional A of 67; A* was 81.
- Repeat for the same paper in every other June, so you can see how much the year matters.
