An alert client in bed needs help brushing his teeth. How should the nurse aide position him first?
The Georgia CNA exam
Georgia uses the NNAAP exam for the Georgia Nurse Aide Registry. New nurse aides have one year from finishing a state-approved program, and three attempts, to pass both parts.
| Written exam | 70 multiple-choice questions: 60 scored, 10 unscored |
|---|---|
| Fee | $130 for both parts |
| Window | 1 year and 3 attempts after training |
| Results | Pass or fail, with no numeric score |
Who can test
New nurse aides who have completed a Georgia state-approved training program test under the first route. Licensed nurses, aides trained in other states and aides whose Georgia registration lapsed apply through other routes after approval from the state's contractor.
Fees
- Written, oral or Spanish exam only: $35
- Skills exam only: $95
- Written or oral exam and skills together: $130
Results and retakes
Score reports show pass or fail only. A failed written exam report shows which sections you failed; a failed skills report lists each skill as satisfactory or unsatisfactory, with the steps you missed. After three attempts at either part you must re-enroll in a training program.
Light duty
You cannot take the skills evaluation while on light duty for medical reasons, though you can take the written or oral exam. You need medical documentation of a return to full duty for the skills test.
Planning for nursing school next?
Many nurse aides go on to nursing programs, which often ask for an entrance test. We have courses for the two most common ones.
