EMT exam

How much does the EMT exam cost?

The National Registry charges $104 for each attempt at the EMT cognitive exam. Each retake is a new application with a new fee.

Each attempt$104
Reschedule or cancel$30, at least one business day ahead
Missed appointmentThe whole fee is forfeited
Rescore request$150, within 30 days of results

What the fee covers

The fee is charged per attempt. Once your application is complete, paid and verified by your program director, you receive an Authorization to Test (ATT), valid for up to 90 days, and you schedule with Pearson VUE.

Rescheduling and missed exams

Changes must be made at least one business day (24 hours) before your appointment, and Pearson charges $30 to reschedule or cancel, plus a call center fee if you do it by phone. If you miss the appointment or arrive too late, you forfeit the fee and must apply and pay again. You can appeal a no-show with documentation of extenuating circumstances.

Refunds

The National Registry refunds an application fee within 90 days of payment, minus an administrative fee, for the reasons its refund policy lists, such as no longer wanting National Registry certification.

Other costs

Your state also requires a BLS skills competency verification approved by the State EMS Office; its cost is set locally. A state license may carry its own fee.
