How many UCAS points is an HL 7?

56 on both the 2026 and 2027 tables. An SL 7 is 28.

What changed between the 2026 and 2027 tables?

Grades 6 and 7 are unchanged. Lower grades are worth more on the 2027 table: an HL 5 is 40 points in 2027 against 32 in 2026, and an HL 1 is 12 against 0.

Do TOK and the EE count?

Each has its own Tariff points by letter grade, from 12 for an A to 4 for an E. A university can choose not to count them.

What it does

The IB Diploma's components as UCAS lists them: each Higher Level and Standard Level certificate grade, Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, on the 2027 UCAS Tariff table (the next application cycle) and the 2026 table.

Method

  1. Each HL and SL grade is looked up in the chosen table: on the 2027 table an HL 7 is 56 points and an SL 7 is 28.
  2. TOK and the EE each carry their own points by letter grade (A is 12, B is 10).
  3. The points you choose to count are added up once. The Diploma's total out of 45 is never used, because the same total can come from different grades: HL 6, 6, 6 with SL 5, 5, 5 gives 224 points on the 2027 table, while HL 5, 5, 5 with SL 6, 6, 6 gives 212.
