How the Paper 2 case study is marked

One case, four questions. Each ends with a 12-mark choice between options, marked in three levels: the top level needs two or more options discussed in detail and a justified recommendation.

The 12-mark choice, in three levels

  • Lower: options outlined with little explanation, and a simple judgement.
  • Middle: at least one option discussed in detail, with a judgement that has some support.
  • Top: two or more options discussed in detail for this business, and a well-justified recommendation that says why the others lose.

Using the appendices

The appendices hold the numbers that decide most choices. Quote them, calculate from them, and say what they mean for the business.

Questions people ask

How long should a 12-mark answer be?

Long enough to discuss two or three options with an advantage and a drawback each, then recommend one: about a page and a half.

Do I lose marks for choosing the wrong option?

No option is wrong in itself. Marks follow how well the choice is argued from the case.
