Who bears the investment risk on the cash value of a variable universal life policy?
Insurance license exam passing score
You pass the Texas General Lines - Life, Accident and Health exam with a scaled score of 70. Scaled scores run from 0 to 100, and the score is neither the number nor the percentage of questions you answered correctly.
| Passing score | 70, scaled from 0 to 100 |
|---|---|
| Scored questions | 130 of 145 |
| Parts | Scored as one exam, not each part separately |
| Retakes | No limit; a new exam can be scheduled within one day |
What a scaled score is
Each exam has several forms with different questions, and some forms are slightly harder. Equating adjusts the number of right answers needed on each form, and scaling puts every form on the same 0 to 100 scale, so 70 means the same level of knowledge on any form.
How the two parts count
The general section and the Texas section are scored together. A strong general score can carry a weaker Texas score, and the other way round, but every scored question counts toward one result.
Pass rates
The Texas candidate handbook and content outlines do not publish a pass rate, so we do not quote one. What you can measure is your own readiness: your share right on full timed practice exams, area by area.
What to aim for in practice
- Take a full 145-question practice exam on the 150-minute clock.
- Find the areas where you get the fewest right and fix those first.
- Answer every question: a wrong answer costs nothing and a blank can never be right.
