Casper quartile score explained
Casper
A quartile to you, a percentile to programs
You get a quartile from 1 to 4, usually 4 to 5 weeks after your test.
Your result
A quartile to you, a percentile to programs. You get a quartile from 1 to 4, usually 4 to 5 weeks after your test. Programs receive a single z-score and percentile, and each decides how to use it. A result counts for one admissions cycle and one test type only.
Casper gives you a quartile from 1 to 4 comparing your responses with others who took the same test type; programs receive a z-score and percentile.
How Casper results are reported
- Trained raters score each question. Each scenario goes to a different rater, and spelling and grammar are not marked.
- The ratings are averaged and standardised against the other applicants who took the same test type.
- You receive a quartile, usually 4 to 5 weeks after your test. Programs receive a single z-score and percentile, and each decides how to use it.

What each Casper quartile means

| Second | Your answers ranked in the quarter below the middle on the same test type. |
| Third | Your answers ranked in the quarter above the middle on the same test type. |
| Fourth | Your answers ranked in the top quarter of those on the same test type. |
How medical programs say they use Casper
| Program | Weight | How it is used |
|---|---|---|
| McMaster MD, Canada | 32% | Casper is 32% of the score McMaster uses to decide who is invited to interview, with GPA 32%, MCAT CARS 32% and a graduate degree bonus of up to 4%. It is not in the final score after interview, which is MMI 70%, GPA 15% and CARS 15%. |
| Auckland MBChB, New Zealand | 50% | Auckland ranks interviewed applicants 50% on the MMI and 50% on Casper, which replaces the UCAT ANZ for 2028 entry. International graduate applicants do not sit it. |
| Queen's MD, Canada | None published | Casper is a minimum: applicants who meet Queen's GPA, MCAT and Casper minimums enter a random draw for interview places, with no weighting. Queen's sets the Casper threshold each year and does not publish it. |
| Dalhousie MD, Canada | None published | Casper is required, and Dalhousie uses the results to select applicants for interview. It publishes no weight. |
| Memorial MD, Canada | None published | Casper is required to be eligible. Memorial publishes no weight, and says that in previous admissions Casper scores were typically in the third quartile or higher. |
| Saskatchewan MD, Canada | None published | Casper is required, and is one of the criteria that can decide interview offers, with the MCAT, academic average and personal statement. Saskatchewan publishes no weight for it. |
Other programs have not said how they weight Casper.
