Casper · scoring and results
How the Casper test is scored
Trained people read every answer. They score what you say and why, not how well you spell. Then your ratings are averaged and compared with other applicants'.
Who reads your answers
- Every answer is scored by a trained human rater. Acuity Insights says Casper is not scored by AI.
- Each scenario goes to a different rater, and no rater scores the same applicant twice. This keeps one strong or weak answer from colouring the rest.
- The same rater reads both questions of a scenario, with the whole scenario in view, but gives each question its own score.
- Your answers are anonymised first: raters see no name, age or photo, only your typed or video answers.
What counts, and what does not
Raters look at your thought process, judgement and communication. Casper is designed to assess interpersonal and professional qualities, which Acuity Insights lists as:
- Collaboration
- Communication
- Empathy
- Fairness
- Ethics
- Self-awareness
- Resilience
- Problem solving
- Motivation
Spelling and grammar are not marked. Bullet points are fine. Acuity's own advice is to explain why you would do something, not just what you would do, and to share your time across both questions, since each is scored on its own.
From ratings to results
- Each question gets its own rating.
- All the ratings across the test are averaged.
- The average is standardised against the other applicants who took the same test type.
- Programs receive a single z-score and percentile. You receive your quartile, usually 4 to 5 weeks after the test.
Because results compare you with other applicants, a lower quartile does not mean you failed. Each program decides how much weight to give Casper.

Our feedback follows the same idea: Mia reads what your words show about the qualities above and whether you explain why, quotes your own sentences, and ignores tone, spelling and grammar. It is practice feedback, never a Casper score or quartile.

Questions
Is Casper scored by AI?
No. Acuity Insights says Casper is scored by trained human raters, not AI. Raters are screened, trained and accredited before they score, and recertify every year.
Do spelling and grammar count on Casper?
No. Raters judge the substance and quality of your response, not grammar or spelling, and are told not to take jargon or grammar mistakes into account. Bullet points are fine, and an unfinished thought is still read for its point.
What does my Casper quartile mean?
It shows how your responses compared with other applicants who took the same test type, in four groups. The first quartile means other applicants had stronger responses; Acuity Insights notes this does not mean you failed.
When do I get my Casper score?
Usually about 4 to 5 weeks after your test. You get an email, then find it under your completed test in your Acuity Insights account.
What do programs see?
A single z-score and percentile. Each program decides how to use and weight it, usually as one part of the application among many.
Where does this come from?
