Read a chart in four checks
- Line color and style: solid blue Class B, solid magenta Class C, dashed blue Class D, dashed magenta Class E from the surface.
- The numbers: Class B and C altitudes are ceiling over floor in hundreds of feet MSL; a Class D ceiling sits in a dashed box.
- Shading: inside the magenta vignette, Class E begins at 700 feet AGL, with Class G below it.
- Obstacles: the bold figure is the top in feet MSL, the figure in parentheses is the height above ground.
Authorization in one line
Part 107 needs prior ATC authorization in Class B, C and D airspace and in a Class E surface area designated for an airport. In Class G, and in Class E that begins above the drone, it does not.

Questions people ask
Will the test still use the printed supplement?
Yes, for now. The FAA says candidates keep the supplement until it announces a removal date, but from 26 October 2026 some chart questions use images that are not in it.
Are these the FAA's chart images?
No. The FAA does not preview its test images. These excerpts are original drawings of invented places, using the real chart symbols.
