Where it is used

Texas gives this national portion as its own 150-minute test beside the 40-question state portion. Florida, California and New York fold the same principles into one state exam with their own law mixed in.

What each area covers

  • Property: fixtures, legal descriptions, zoning, easements.
  • Ownership: estates, joint tenancy, deeds, recording, liens.
  • Value: market value, the three approaches, depreciation.
  • Contracts and agency: valid contracts, remedies, fiduciary duties, listings.
  • Practice: fair housing, supervision, antitrust, risk management.
  • Disclosures: lead paint, radon, CERCLA, flood zones.
  • Financing: loan types, the secondary market, RESPA and TILA.
  • Math: area, value, commission, loan costs, prorations and closing figures.
