Refrigerant certification

What refrigerant certification costs

EPA does not set or publish a fee. Each EPA-approved certification program sets its own price for the test and the card, so compare a few before you book.

What you pay for

  • The test itself: Core plus the types you need, or Universal.
  • Proctoring, in person or remote, for closed-book tests.
  • Your wallet card, issued by the program.
  • A retake, if a section falls short of 70 percent.

Why one pass lasts

Section 608 certification does not expire, so the test is a one-time cost. The rule asks you to keep a copy of your certificate at your place of business until three years after you stop working as a technician.

Finding a program

EPA lists every approved program with its headquarters and approval date. Some test remotely, and some test only their own employees. EPA does not review or approve preparation courses, including this one.
