How the score works

Each test has a Core section of 25 questions and 25 for each type you take. A Universal test is 100 questions. At 70 percent, 18 of 25 passes and 17 does not, since 17 of 25 is 68 percent.

Universal can be taken all at once, or built up by passing the Type I, Type II and Type III tests separately.

Is there a published pass rate?

No. EPA approves the organizations that give the test and sets the pass mark, but it publishes no pass rate or candidate numbers. Our free tests show your share right in each section beside the 70 percent mark instead.

After you pass

The certifying organization sends your result and a wallet card within 30 days. EPA does not issue cards. The certification does not expire, and you keep a copy at your place of business.
