Why do Further Maths options have different grade boundaries?
Each combination of papers is graded as its own route, because the optional papers differ in how candidates score on them. In June 2026 Edexcel's A boundary was 250 for Further Statistics 1 with Further Mechanics 1 and 236 for Further Mechanics 1 with Decision Maths 1.
How is OCR MEI Further Maths (H645) weighted?
Core Pure (Y420) is marked out of 144 and scaled by 1.25 to make it 180 of the 360 weighted marks. The other papers count at face value. OCR rounds the weighted total to a whole mark before grading.
What is an A* in Edexcel Further Maths?
In June 2026 it ranged from 262 to 275 out of 300 across the ten routes. Pick your route above to see yours.
Do I need a certain grade on Core Pure?
No. The grade comes from the total across your papers, so a strong option paper can make up for a weaker Core Pure paper, and the other way round.

The four current A-level Further Maths specifications: AQA 7367 (3 routes), Pearson Edexcel 9FM0 (10 routes), OCR A H245 (6 routes) and OCR B MEI H645 (30 routes), with boundaries for each June from 2019 to 2026 where the route was sat.
Method
- Add the raw marks of the papers on your route. OCR H645 is the one exception: Core Pure (Y420) is marked out of 144 and counts 1.25 times, so it is half of the 360-mark qualification, and the weighted total is rounded half up. Example: 110, 79 and 48 on Y420, Y421 and Y432 give 264.5, which rounds to 265.
- Compare the total with the qualification boundary printed for your exact route and June.
- Show the same June's A and A* boundaries on every other route of your specification, and your total on every other June for your route.
