Math competitions

How much the AMC costs

Students do not pay the MAA directly. A school or other competition site registers and pays the MAA, and some sites then charge students to cover their costs while others are free.

Site registration$55 early bird, $75 regular, $115 late
AMC 10 or AMC 12 bundle$30 for 10 student licenses
AMC 8 bundle$25 for 10 student licenses
AIME$85 plus taxes, if applicable

How signing up works

Ask your school whether it hosts the AMC 8 or the AMC 10 and AMC 12. If it does not, the MAA suggests local colleges, universities, math circles and learning centers, and it publishes a public list of registered sites. The competition manager at the site sends the registration link, approves you and runs competition day.

The site fees for 2026-27

For the AMC 10 and AMC 12, the site registration deadlines are September 30 (early bird, $55), October 15 (regular, $75) and October 28, 2026 (late, $115, returning sites only). For the AMC 8 they are October 28, 2026, January 5, 2027 and January 14, 2027. A student taking both the A and the B competition needs two licenses.

What a student pays

That is up to the site. The MAA says some sites charge students fees to cover the cost of running the competition, while others let students take part free of charge, and the MAA is not involved in those payments.

Is the AMC free?

It depends on the site. Some sites charge students and some do not.
