Questions people ask

Does a higher score always earn more credit?

Not always. At some universities a 4 and a 5 earn the same credit; at others a 5 is needed for any credit, or only gives placement.

What is credit worth in semester hours?

It depends on the school's system: UF and Georgia Tech use semester credits, the UC campuses use quarter units, and MIT uses its own units.

Can the AB subscore earn credit if my BC score is low?

At the UC campuses, yes: an AB subscore of 3 or higher earns 4 quarter units even when the BC score is below 3. Georgia Tech and Michigan do not accept it.

How we work this out

What it does

The published credit for Calculus AB and BC scores at six universities and the UC system, in each school's own units.

Calculus AB and BC scores of 3, 4 and 5 at the University of Florida, UCLA (College of Letters and Science), Georgia Tech, Purdue, MIT, the University of Michigan (LSA) and the University of California system, as published when we checked them on 26 September 2026.

Method

  1. We copied each university's published row for each score: the course or credit awarded, the units in the university's own system (semester, quarter or MIT units) and its notes.
  2. Where a university does not state the units, we show them as not stated, never as zero.
  3. For BC, we add the AB subscore rule where the university publishes one: UC and UCLA give 4 quarter units for a subscore of 3 or higher; Georgia Tech and Michigan do not accept the subscore.
