Questions people ask

How is the CRS score calculated?

Up to 500 points for core and spouse factors (age, education, language, Canadian work), up to 100 for skill transferability, and up to 600 additional points, such as a provincial nomination or French. The maximum is 1,200.

What CRS score do I need?

It depends on the round. The latest Canadian Experience Class round invited down to 518; the latest French-language round, open to candidates with NCLC 7 or higher in all four French skills, down to 382.

Does a job offer add CRS points?

No. Job offer points were removed on 25 March 2025.

Which TEF Canada score do I enter?

The "Équivalence ancien score" column of your results, which Express Entry uses. The calculator converts it to NCLC.

How many points does French add?

NCLC 7 in all four French skills, with CLB 5 or more in all four English skills, adds a 50-point bonus plus 12 second-language points: 62. At NCLC 9 in all four it is up to 74 if you apply alone.

How we work this out

Method

  1. Each test result becomes a CLB (English) or NCLC (French) level per skill, from IRCC's Express Entry tables. TEF Canada uses the "Équivalence ancien score" column.
  2. Points come from IRCC's CRS grid. The with-spouse column applies when your spouse or partner comes with you and is not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  3. If you have both languages, the calculator scores each as your first official language and keeps the higher.
  4. Each step in the plan is the same calculation with one thing changed, so its gain is exact for your profile.
  5. Cut-offs and the pool are from IRCC's published rounds.
