The TEF Canada format
Four tests on the same day: reading, listening and writing on a computer, and speaking face to face with an examiner.
| Reading | 40 questions, 60 minutes |
|---|---|
| Listening | 40 questions, 40 minutes, each recording once |
| Writing | Section A, 25 minutes, 80 words minimum · Section B, 35 minutes, 200 words minimum |
| Speaking | Section A, 5 minutes · Section B, 10 minutes |
| Marking | 1 point per right answer, 0 for wrong or blank |
Reading
40 multiple-choice questions with four options each, in 60 minutes. You can move freely through the questions, so answer every one: a blank scores the same as a wrong answer.
Listening
40 questions in 40 minutes. Each recording plays once, you get a few seconds to read the question before it starts, and you cannot go back to an earlier question.
Writing
Section A: continue a news story (a fait divers) from its opening (at least 80 words, 25 minutes). Section B: express a point of view and justify it (at least 200 words, 35 minutes). A virtual keyboard gives the accents if yours has none.
Speaking
Section A: ask questions to obtain information (5 minutes). Section B: present arguments to convince (10 minutes). The test is recorded to allow a second evaluation.
