What the questions ask

  • Civics and government: the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the three branches, checks and balances, federalism and elections.
  • U.S. history: key events from the colonies to the modern era, read through speeches, letters and timelines.
  • Economics: supply and demand, opportunity cost, inflation, interest and government policy.
  • Geography: population, migration, maps, and how people and the environment shape each other.

How to win marks

Read the source first and the question second. Know the big ideas of American government well; much of the test asks you to apply them to a new document.
