How the range is worked out
- Each question has a difficulty level set by our question writers, checked against an independent solve.
- In each measure we find the ability that best explains how many you got right, allowing for how hard those questions were.
- We place that ability on the 130 to 170 scale using the average and spread of scores ETS reports for test takers from July 2022 to June 2025, and read your place among test takers off ETS's percentile table.
- With six questions per measure the range is wide; a full practice test narrows it.
- The real test adapts by section. This diagnostic does not, so everyone sees the same twelve questions.
Questions
Is this an official GRE test?
No. The questions are our own, written in the current GRE format and pacing, and each one was solved independently by two solvers. ETS offers free POWERPREP practice tests at ets.org.
How accurate is the score?
It is a range, because twelve questions cannot pin down one score. Our free full-length practice test narrows it a lot.
How long does it take?
About 20 minutes: Verbal 9 minutes and Quant 10 minutes 30 seconds, the real test's time per question.
Do I need an account?
No. You see your likely Verbal and Quant scores straight away. A free account adds the skills to fix first, a two-week plan and every answer explained, and keeps them.
What is a good GRE score?
It depends on the program. A 160 beats about 82% of test takers in Verbal and about 50% in Quant (ETS).
