The Oxford interview process, step by step
Every Oxford interview for 2027 entry is online, on Microsoft Teams, in December 2026. You are likely to have more than one interview, usually with two tutors, and some are with a second college. Oxford gives about 20,000 interviews to about 10,000 shortlisted applicants. Pick your course for its dates and set-up.

The process, from shortlist to decision
Shortlisting
A letter or email, usually from the college you applied to, between mid-November and early December. It may give only a week's notice.
Invitations
A separate Teams calendar invitation for each interview. Accept each one; you do not need a Microsoft account.
Pre-reading
Some subjects send a text or task, normally by email the day before. Read it alone and do not look it up online.
The interview
You wait in a Teams lobby until the tutors admit you. They start with a few simple questions, then move to your subject: a text, a graph, a problem or an object to discuss.
More interviews
Some courses add an interview at a second college. Oxford aims to give at least 24 hours' notice.
Decision
12 January 2027 on UCAS, with your college following up later that day.
The three technology set-ups
Oxford puts each course in a tier. Most courses are tier 1.
Tier 1: video call
A computer with webcam, microphone and speakers, and Teams. Tutors may share their screen or hold something up to the camera.
Tier 2: plus a whiteboard
A Miro whiteboard on the same computer, to mark up documents and add text. Biochemistry, Economics and Management, History and Economics, Music and PPE.
Tier 3: plus a stylus
Miro on a touchscreen of at least 8 inches with a basic stylus, for maths and sketches. Maths, physics, chemistry, computer science, engineering and earth sciences courses.

On the day
- Test Teams, your camera and, for tiers 2 and 3, Miro, in the room you will use.
- Frame the camera so your whole head is in view and you look straight at the screen.
- Have plain paper, a pen and a bottle of water, and your personal statement and any written work.
- Turn off any automatic transcription in Teams. AI tools and recordings are not allowed.
- If the connection drops, tell the tutors. The college rearranges if it cannot go on.
