A college that rates you but has no place can pass your application to others. A few pooled applicants are interviewed again.
27 January 2027: Cambridge outcomes
Colleges email in the morning and UCAS shows the outcome by mid-afternoon. An offer may come from a college you did not apply to.
Summer 2027: results
Most offers are conditional on your grades. Cambridge Mathematics offers usually include STEP in June.
The Cambridge winter pool in numbers
About 18% of applications received in October 2025 were placed in the winter pool. You are not told in advance: you find out through a new interview, an offer from another college, or a rejection after the pool.
In January 2026, 1,060 pooled applicants, about 1 in 4, were offered a place by a different college. Only 20 were invited to another interview.
Before decision day
- Check your email every day in December and January, junk folder included.
- If illness or other circumstances affected an interview, tell the college now, not after the decision.
- Keep your phone on: a Cambridge college may call in January about a pool interview.
- Know your other UCAS choices, so either answer leaves you with a plan.
