ATI TEAS

The TEAS Math section

Mathematics is the second section: 38 questions in 57 minutes. A basic calculator is built into the test.

Questions38, of which 34 are scored
Time57 minutes, about 90 seconds a question
TopicsNumbers and algebra; measurement and data
CalculatorBuilt into the test; personal calculators are not allowed

What the questions ask

  • Numbers and algebra: fractions, decimals and percents, ordering numbers, signed numbers, ratios and proportions, equations, inequalities and word problems.
  • Measurement and data: unit conversions, perimeter, area and volume, tables and graphs, mean, median, mode and range, relationships between variables.

How to win marks

The calculator does the arithmetic, not the setup. Most lost marks come from the wrong base for a percent, a proportion set up backwards or a unit converted the wrong way. Write what the question asks for first.

Questions people ask

Can I use a calculator on the TEAS?

Yes. A basic calculator is built into the test. You cannot bring your own.

Are unit conversions given on the TEAS?

Know the everyday ones, such as 12 inches in a foot and 1,000 milliliters in a liter. Our practice gives less common factors, such as 2.2 pounds in a kilogram, in the question.
