Questions people ask

How do I convert my PSAT score to an SAT score?

You do not need to. The PSAT and SAT share one scale, so a 1200 on the PSAT is about a 1200 on the SAT taken the same day. The SAT scale just goes higher, to 1600.

How is the PSAT Selection Index calculated?

Double your Reading and Writing score, add your Math score and divide by 10. A 700 in Reading and Writing and 680 in Math gives (1400 + 680) / 10 = 208.

What PSAT score do I get with 50 right in Reading and Writing and 40 in Math?

On practice test 1, about 1090: 570 in Reading and Writing and 520 in Math, with a Selection Index of 166.

What is the PSAT score range?

320 to 1520 for the PSAT/NMSQT, with each section from 160 to 760. The Selection Index runs from 48 to 228.

How we work this out

What it does

Enter your questions right on a PSAT practice test.

The paper versions of College Board's PSAT/NMSQT practice tests 1 and 2: Reading and Writing out of 66, Math out of 54.

Method

  1. Your questions right in each section are looked up in College Board's table for that test, which prints a score range for each section.
  2. We show the middle of each range, rounded to 10. Your total is the two section scores added together.
  3. The Selection Index follows College Board's rule: double your Reading and Writing score, add your Math score and divide by 10.
  4. The PSAT and the SAT report on one shared scale, so your PSAT total is also about the SAT score you would get today.
