Digital SAT score calculator

Why can't I convert Bluebook raw scores with a table? College Board says the same number of right answers can lead to different scores on the digital SAT, because the questions differ, and it publishes no universal raw-score table.

Which practice test?

Bluebook already shows your practice score. Use this to see how mistakes in each module move it, for example when you only know how many you missed.

Questions people ask

Why can't I convert Bluebook raw scores with a table?

College Board says the same number of right answers can lead to different scores on the digital SAT, because the questions differ, and it publishes no universal raw-score table. Bluebook shows your official practice score after each test.

How is the SAT scored?

Each section, Reading and Writing and Math, is scored from 200 to 800 in steps of 10, and the total is their sum, from 400 to 1600.

What do the paper practice tests count?

The linear paper versions of practice tests 4 to 7 have 66 Reading and Writing questions and 54 Math questions. College Board's scoring guide for each gives a scaled range for every raw score.

How many mistakes for a 1500?

It depends on the test and which questions you miss. On paper, open the table under the chart for your test. In Bluebook, the grid shows which combinations of module mistakes published results support.

How we work this out

What it does

Convert a paper SAT practice test with College Board's own table, or see an honest range for mistakes in each Bluebook module.

Two cases. Paper: the linear paper versions of digital SAT practice tests 4, 5, 6 and 7 (Reading and Writing out of 66, Math out of 54). Bluebook: mistakes in module 1 and module 2 of each section, up to 10 per module.

Method

  1. Paper: your raw score is looked up in College Board's table for that test, which gives a scaled range for each section. The total range is the two section ranges added together.
  2. Bluebook: a tutoring company, PrepMaven, published the section scores it saw after answering Bluebook practice test 1 with chosen numbers of mistakes in each module (44 combinations, 31 attempts). Where your mistakes match a published combination, we use it.
  3. Otherwise we take the four nearest published combinations, weight each by one over its squared distance from yours, and round the weighted midpoint to 10 points.
  4. The range spans the lowest and highest scores those combinations showed, widened by 50 points each side. The 50 points is a declared choice, not a fitted interval.
  5. With more than 10 mistakes in a module, or no published combination within 3 mistakes, we give no estimate.
  6. For paper practice tests, the one score shown is the middle of College Board's scaled range, rounded to the nearest 10.
