Questions people ask
What is a superscore?
Your best section scores from different test dates combined. On the SAT that is best Reading and Writing plus best Math; on the ACT, the average of your best English, Math and Reading.
Do all colleges superscore?
No. Some use your highest section scores, some your best single test, and some ask for every score. Princeton, for example, uses the highest ACT Composite only. Always check the college's own page.
Does ACT calculate a superscore for me?
Yes. ACT builds a superscore automatically once you have tested more than once, using English, Math and Reading. Science is sent if you took it but is not part of the enhanced superscore.
What do I need on my next ACT to get a 34?
Enter your tests and a target of 34. With best sections of 34 and 33, a 34 in the third section gets you there, because 34 + 33 + 34 = 101, which averages 33.67 and rounds to 34.

How we work this out
What it does
Enter your test scores to get your superscore, the one-section score that reaches your target, and what your college does with superscores.
Up to three digital SAT or enhanced ACT tests, and the current testing and superscore rules of nine colleges.
Method
- SAT: your best Reading and Writing score plus your best Math score, from any tests (College Board's definition). 700 and 660, then 670 and 730, superscore to 1430.
- ACT: your best English, Math and Reading, averaged and rounded to the nearest whole number with a half rounding up (ACT's rule).
- Target: for each section, the score it would need, keeping your other best sections. On the ACT, three scores average to at least T when they add up to at least 3T - 1, so with best sections of 34 and 33 you need a 34 for a Composite of 34.
- College: each college's current rule, in its own words, from its testing page.
