SIE exam online: can you take the SIE at home?
Yes. Anyone with an open SIE enrollment window can take the exam online, at home, through Prometric's ProProctor app with a remote proctor. It is the same exam: 75 scored questions in 1 hour 45 minutes, for the same $100.

From enrolling to your result
- Enroll with FINRA and pay $100. FINRA then opens a 120-day window in which you must take the exam.
- Book an online appointment with Prometric, on its website or by phone, inside that window.
- Install ProProctor and run its system check on the computer you will use on the day.
- Log in 30 minutes early. The proctor checks your ID, takes your picture and asks you to show the whole room with your camera.
- Take the exam. Breaks are for the restroom only, and the clock keeps running.
- Get your result by email within 3 business days.

Can you take the SIE exam online?
Yes. FINRA offers the SIE online to anyone with an open enrollment window. You take it at home or another private space through Prometric's ProProctor app, with a remote proctor.
Is the online SIE the same exam?
Yes: 75 scored questions in 1 hour 45 minutes, a passing score of 70, and the same $100 fee when you enroll.
Can you use a calculator on the online SIE?
Only the one on screen. You cannot use your own calculator or scratch paper; the online exam gives you an on-screen calculator and a virtual notepad.
How do you get your results online?
By email, within 3 business days. At a test center you see them on screen shortly after you finish.
Can other FINRA exams be taken online?
Only in some cases: if you live more than 150 miles from a test center or have an approved accommodation. The SIE has no such condition.
What happens if my internet drops during the online SIE?
FINRA says your test information is not lost and you can resume where you left off.
